Report: Impact of US tariffs on NZ's major exports
With thanks to NZIBF member Westpac for this excellent collaboration, featuring the analysis of Darren Gibbs and Kelly Eckhold and insights from Sarah Salmond Elliott... have a look at our update report on the impact of US tariffs on NZ's major exports.
• The report shows that while US tariffs are manageable in the aggregate for now, they remain unhelpful and put NZ at a commercial disadvantage in key sectors.
• Strong US consumer demand – and high commodity prices – are shielding most primary goods exporters from the negative impact of the tariffs. Exporters will likely face pressure should US market conditions weaken.
• Exporters can seek to mitigate the impact by working with partners in market, increasing their optionality through diversification, and seeking support from Government and industry organisations.
